[Every message bounces back to her with the exact same ping, the little noise of a disconnected device. Nill types up a few more messages, but can't bring herself to send them.
Nothing goes through for awhile. Nill goes to message Lily, because she was next on the list, and finds that Lily's tablet is also disconnected.
If Lily made it back to her own world, she was going home to die. Nill was almost positive of it. She would never live to a time when Nill could have met her in their own world, and if Nill was right about who she was, Heine would never get over her death. The cycle of destruction that was the world Nill came from would go on forever, one way or another. Lily was gone, and Nill had lied to her. She couldn't keep her away from that woman at all.
And Seras... Nill's last surviving family was gone. Maybe she was back in her own world-- she hoped she was, because it seemed like something Seras would want. But even if she wasn't, the chance of Nill ending up in a world with her again were impossible.
Nill searches through her room, and finds that she no longer has a stash of alcohol to hide in. Instead she goes outside, and she smokes, one cigarette after another, until she's burned through five and a half.
It isn't until then that the tears start falling. Nill hangs her head, and drops her cigarette, and finally, she sends one more message.]
